DESCRIPTION: Circa 1970s-80s divided back printed colour multi view post card, titled: ' QUEENS-
TOWN — WEST COAST TASMANIA ' , Western Tasmania, Southern Australia. Descriptive text printed
on back reads: This is a most unique mining town offering some of the most unusual scenery in
the state. The area has been mined since the early 1880's. It is the hub of the West Coast comm-
erce. The Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company operates open cut and underground copper
mines and is entirely responsible for the existence of Queenstown today. "This natural Peacock
ore was mined at the 150m level at Prince Lyell Mine, Queenstown — supplied by Doug Lucas".
Mt. Lyell Loco No. 3 pulled ore from Queenstown to Strahan for export, until the rail closure in
1963.
